Double-breasted, and generously cut. A slim single-breasted pinstripe is a banker; a roomy double-breasted one with a wide peak lapel is Gomez. The lapel width is what carries it. The stripe should be visible from across a room — chalk or rope stripe on charcoal or black, not a subtle city stripe. Wide collar on the shirt, and a silk tie with a full knot. The proportions all need to be big together; one narrow element and the whole thing looks like a mismatch. And the finishing touches are cheap: a pocket square, slicked-back hair, a thin moustache. The suit does the work but those three are what make it read as the character rather than as menswear.
