The Wardrobe, Decoded
Male elegance, played entirely for joy.
Ruth Myers dressed the 1991 film and described the pleasure of the job plainly: "to have men with that sort of male elegance, it was a very fun job." Gomez's signature was a bespoke black-and-grey double-breasted pinstripe suit tailored by Barbara Matera — documented from the screen-used costume, with interior "Mr. Julia" labels in the jacket and trousers.
Why we can't let it go
Gomez Addams is the happiest wardrobe on this site. Every other tailored character here wears a suit as armour, as status or as a threat. Gomez wears one because he's having a wonderful time.
The pinstripe does most of the work — double-breasted, generously cut, with a wide peak lapel and a shirt collar to match. It's 1930s tailoring worn in the nineties by a man who has clearly never considered dressing any other way.
And it's an underrated Halloween option, because unlike most costumes it's actually just a very good suit. You can wear the whole thing to a wedding the following week.

The Suit
Any hour of any day
1930s proportions, worn with total commitment and no irony.

Double-breasted, and generously cut. A slim single-breasted pinstripe is a banker; a roomy double-breasted one with a wide peak lapel is Gomez. The lapel width is what carries it.
The stripe should be visible from across a room — chalk or rope stripe on charcoal or black, not a subtle city stripe.
Wide collar on the shirt, and a silk tie with a full knot. The proportions all need to be big together; one narrow element and the whole thing looks like a mismatch.
And the finishing touches are cheap: a pocket square, slicked-back hair, a thin moustache. The suit does the work but those three are what make it read as the character rather than as menswear.
