Corporate dressing, taken to its logical end.
Sarah Edwards designed the Lumon wardrobe around an invented rulebook: "We imagined they had a dress code handbook, which specified that they had to wear certain kind of office attire," with colours "fairly neutral throughout." Helly got small exceptions — "a real sort of focal character, being the only woman in the group," so "maybe she was given a little bit more leeway, just little things we've kind of snuck in there."
Why we can't let it go
Helly R's wardrobe is the most unsettling on this site because it's the most normal. Office separates. A collared shirt. A knee-length skirt. Nothing wrong with any of it, and that's the horror.
Edwards' invented dress-code handbook is a genuinely brilliant device. Everything on the severed floor looks like it was chosen by a policy rather than a person, which is exactly what has happened.
And the small exceptions granted to Helly are the design's best detail. A slightly better collar, a slightly sharper cut. Tiny freedoms inside a system, which is the entire show.

Neutral, and slightly out of time. Stone, taupe, dove grey, navy — nothing that suggests a particular year. That timelessness is why the show looks the way it does.
Separates, not dresses. A collared shirt or fine knit with a knee-length skirt or straight trouser. Everything modest, everything covered.
The fit is precise but never tight. This is a wardrobe about compliance, so anything that looks expressive is wrong.
And allow yourself exactly one detail — a good collar, a single ring, a slightly better shoe. Edwards built those exceptions in deliberately, and they're what makes the look wearable rather than merely corporate.
