The Wardrobe, Decoded
Armour, chosen piece by piece.
Trish Summerville designed the film and is direct about what the outerwear is doing: "These are her shields. And she feels comfortable in them." On building the character: "Her haircut was a big, big deal for us. We didn't want her to be loud" — the transformation was "the haircut, the hair dye, eyebrows, the piercings, working on the tattoos."
Why we can't let it go
Lisbeth Salander is the only wardrobe on this site explicitly designed as protection. Summerville's word is shields, and once you have it, every piece makes sense.
It's all black, all hard, all closed. Leather with zips and studs, knitwear that's been destroyed, boots with weight. Nothing soft touches the outside of this outfit.
And Summerville's note that they didn't want her to be loud is the key. This isn't punk as a statement — it's punk as a barrier. The look isn't trying to attract attention. It's trying to end conversations.

The Jacket
Outside, at speed
Hard leather and hardware — nothing soft on the outside.
01Hard Leather JacketCropped, asymmetric zip, stiff rather than soft. It should feel like it stops something.
Find it
We haven't chosen the exact pieces for this look — but every garment above is described precisely enough to find. Open any one and we'll go and look for it.

Black on black, with hardware. Zips, studs, buckles, eyelets — the metal is the only ornament and there should be a lot of it.
The jacket is the centre. Cropped, asymmetric zip, hard leather rather than soft. It should feel like it could stop something.
Destroyed knitwear is the second layer — holes, laddering, oversized. Genuinely worn rather than factory-distressed, same rule as Effy.
And the hair and piercings do half of it, as Summerville said. Short, dark, blunt. The clothes alone won't get you there.
