The Wardrobe, Decoded

Designed to look like an oil slick.

Kym Barrett's brief for Trinity was precise: "I wanted her to seem like an oil slick. She's there, but she's not there." She also stressed that the costumes had to function as genuine stunt protection rather than just look shiny — which is why the silhouette is so tightly engineered.

Why we can't let it go

Trinity is the shiniest wardrobe on this site and the least frivolous. Barrett's oil-slick idea is exactly right — the surface catches light and gives away nothing, and the shape reads as fast even standing still.

What separates it from generic latex-and-leather is the tailoring. The coat has a proper collar and a real line. The trousers are cut like trousers, not like a costume. It's engineered clothing that happens to be in PVC.

And it's a very strong Halloween option precisely because it's so legible: black, shining, high collar, small dark glasses. Four elements, instantly recognisable.

How to actually wear the Trinity look

Shine is the entire signature — PVC, patent, coated denim or high-gloss faux leather. A matte black outfit is a completely different character. Keep it tight but tailored. The pieces should look constructed rather than poured on; Barrett built these to be fought in, and shapeless shiny clothing reads as costume immediately. High collar, always closed. Nothing about this look is open at the neck. And the sunglasses are small and rectangular, not oval like Neo's. It's a small distinction and it's the one people get wrong.
